The most prominent trend in that direction is the rapidly accelerating destabilization of the climate, one of the key components that has sustained the stability of the whole Earth System, until now. By the end of the eleven thousand years or so of the Holocene geological epoch, when optimum conditions facilitated human survival and development, humans have effectively taken over the planet.
